At the waterfront, the waves assault
Walls of rock in suicidal frenzy.
Eons of war, until the cliffs bow to the sea.
Blue maws close, drooling with unrelenting jaws.
Breaker, I’m sentient.
In my veins runs violence.
I’ll hit granite and if I am to be crushed:
Belt out chants of war,
Songs of victory,
And stir the maelstrom with your roar
To erase our untimely gloom.
Impregnable forts defend the high ground.
But we are like the surf, will never run dry.
Exult and recite! No doubt you will join the fight.
To lofty hymns, our armies clash.
Lo and behold the wonder: all the lives linked by fate.
And all those we break reverberate,
Are uplifted by the roar,
The chants of war,
The songs of victory.
