Set all hopes in tow Survey all that surrounds Set your foreground There’ll be peace abound Not every seed you throw Will help you settle down Don’t let your guard down Don’t let your guard down No way to know, how far to go No way to see, no fucking prophecy And then you’ll know just where you are Set all hopes in tow Survey all that surrounds Set your foreground There’ll be peace abound But not every seed you throw Will help you settle down Don’t let your guard down Don’t let your guard down And then you’ll know just where you are …

I’ve got no love for this city I don’t plan on sticking around Everyone’s losing their sense of self Trying to fit within the crowd Which personalities present? You know it’s hard to say You pick a mask up off your shelf And put it on display Can’t deny destiny I’ve got no love for this town And all it’s foolish games Everyone’s trying to pretend their worth more then just their name We’re all alone together Confined to concrete cells Trapped in a cycle of vein pursuit And they do it to themselves Can’t deny destiny
3.
Lured By Longing, for something more No stone unturned, no ships are moored Don’t watch me now, I won’t show you how To look the devil in the face Just Give em the gears, ignore you’re fears, disappear without a trace Burn your passport and bar the doors Close your tabs, and settle your score Don’t watch me now, I won’t show you how To look the devil in the face Just Give em the gears, ignore you’re fears, disappear without a trace
4.
I am dog, often mistaken for a wolf from afar I never wanted to walk alone, but I can’t keep lowering the bar Animal instinct often mistaken for agency and choice Too much static, too erratic, to quell that inner voice Crawling on all fours Clamouring to see in this dark sky sanctuary In a Dark Sky Sanctuary Destination, driven by desire, never needs I’ll rather not kill or bite the hand that feeds Lacking tact, losing track of reason or intent Heart is racing, no invitations, lash out at the scent Crawling on all fours Clamouring to see in a dark Sky Sanctuary You think it’s a shame now You always complain how All that’s left is blood and bone I’ve been living all my life in this dark Sky sanctuary Situation not so bright in this dark Sky sanctuary I’ve been living all my life in a dark Sky sanctuary Situation not so bright in this dark Sky sanctuary
5.
I know this record sounds broken, but no one should be resigned to such a fate We always thought you were joking But now it’s getting late How long have has this been going on So strong to carry on No One Can Go It Alone No One Can Go It Alone You just can’t make it on your own No One Can Go It Alone You know the cracks, they are showing You thought we couldn’t tell I know there’s no way of knowing How many times you fell How long have has this been going on So strong to carry on No One Can Go It Alone No One Can Go It Alone You just can’t make it on your own No One Can Go It Alone You think that every doors closing but all the boys would gladly lend a hand Just swallow that pride if you can You’re no less of a man No one can go it alone
6.
Feel the pressure Caught in a bind Looking for answers While driving blind Release the wheel Just let it go Better make a memory Before the curtain close Don’t go to anger Don’t waste a breath Don’t ever feel You’ve got nothing left Can’t break the cycle Don’t have a choice A whole generation Has lost its voice Were sold a dream We can’t attain We live a life We can’t sustain How long to go How long to know Our times borrowed Can’t break the cycle Don’t have a choice A whole generation Has lost its voice
7.
Private Myth 04:44
Solitary Destitute, frail and grey Incendiary Words you’d wish would go away It shouldn’t be long now, before we meet again Ordinary People waiting to be saved Palpitating Hearts just bleeding for the brave It shouldn’t be long now, until we meet again Meet again Disillusioned, Worn out, jaded, cast astray A brief reunion, Memory on auto play Adversary, moving in without delay Imaginary, Friends are far to scared to stay It shouldn’t be long now, until we meet again Meet again
8.
The fear of silence proceeding every word You pray for guidance, a voice that will never be heard You kneel before them for some stability An endless search for some tranquility Try to change but you know you never will Worlds spinning While I’m standing still You really bore them, regaling your past exploits So irritated by the sound of your own voice No resolution, wrangling with weak repose The minor details you’re compelled to disclose Try to change but you know you never will Worlds spinning While I’m standing still What do you want from me, the answers not quite clear I’ll never know I don’t know There’s little comedy in this atrocity Blame impulse or the beer All the levity from the depravity Is such a thin veneer Get back to what you know Get back to what you know

about

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present the highly anticipated second album of Canada’s FREEWAYS, Dark Sky Sanctuary, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

FREEWAYS are comprised of four old friends from the peripheral fringes of the greater Toronto area who decided to channel their shared love of dollar-bin Canadian hard rock records and poorly ripped recordings of NWOBHM they’ll never afford into a nearly decades-long pursuit of seeing how far they can play from home and how many drink tickets they can accumulate at a single gig. So far, that plan has produced a handful thrilling of short-lengths (on both tape and 7” format) and an absolutely stunning debut album, True Bearings, released in 2020 by the late/great Temple of Mystery Records.

And True Bearings was presciently titled: this was the sound of FREEWAYS hitting a fever pitch of hard rock glory, plaintive and poignant and positively bleeding pathos every step of the rough, wild way. That widely celebrated debut LP took the band overseas again that spring, where they were even-more-warmly received by rivetheads old and young. With the untimely closing of said label and their growing throng of fans in Europe, DYING VICTIMS stepped in to reissue True Bearings last year, setting the stage for their hotly anticipated follow-up.

At last, it’s here in the form of Dark Sky Sanctuary. Whereas the debut’s cover art (partly) forecasted its contents – cold and cutting on the surface, with a wealth of warmth lurking within that figurative RV – so does the cover art of Dark Sky Sanctuary similarly suggest its sonic arc. The effervescent elan of FREEWAYS is in full force here, except that that’s daubed in hues darker for the band and perhaps a bit thornier as a result. On Dark Sky Sanctuary, the quartet’s fueled by a fire here that sees them both exploring their busier & more aggressive side as equally as their stripped-back & pensive one. It’s difficult to truly qualify the latter as “poppier,” but it’s not impossible to view the moodier side of turn-of-the-‘80s radio rock through FREEWAYS’ unique, ever-engaging lens.

Somehow rougher and more polished, Dark Sky Sanctuary is a sonic safe haven for those who still hold hope for heavy rock as an authentically emotional artform. FREEWAYS are fully recommended for fans of Blue Öyster Cult, Wishbone Ash, Praying Mantis…and FREEWAYS!
